Unbundled Services

Legal services on a limited basis for a specific aspect of your legal case.

Unbundled legal services are where a person hires a lawyer to do only a specific aspect of their legal case. Aspire Family Law provides many legal services on a flat-fee basis. Flat-fee services will be quoted during or following your initial consultation where we will meet with you to discuss the type of services you will need, estimate how long they will take, and whether you have any upcoming deadlines that need to taken into account.

Flat-fee services allow the client to understand and come to an agreement on the specific legal services they need and how much those services will cost. It gives the client control over their budget and what work they agree to do on the file themselves.

Before starting to work on your file, Aspire Family Law will provide you with a detailed Retainer Agreement that sets out what work Aspire Family Law will provide for you, what work is not covered, and the cost of the work that will be provided. Once that work has been completed, the retainer will either end or we can discuss entering into a further Retainer Agreement

For litigants in court who are self-represented or unrepresented in court, unbundled services can include any of the following:

  • drafting specific court documents;

  • providing you with legal advice to help you decide which claims you wish to advance in court;

  • providing you with a legal opinion or summary of the law on a particular topic; or

  • appearing in court to represent you for a specific stage of the proceedings (i.e., a case conference or motion).

Legal Coaching

Legal coaching is a service available for individuals who are representing themselves in court (known as self-represented litigants) and would like the support of a lawyer to help them navigate through the courts. The self-represented client is directing their own legal course within the court system and may want a lawyer to help them work through specific challenges.  This could include booking a strategic session to cover any of the following topics:

  • How to draft documents for court.

  • How to correspond with the opposing lawyer.

  • How to present their case to a judge.

  • How to act in court.

  • What to expect at various stages of the court process.

  • Review of the law on specific topics.

The self-represented client is in charge of what they want to discuss with the lawyer and what portions of their case they need coaching through. If you are unsure if being a self-represented litigant is the right path for you or if you have questions, please contact our office for more information.

Cost

Depending on what type of services you are seeking, our unbundled legal services may be eligible for flat-fee billing, meaning that you will be given a specific quote for the work that you wish to have done, rather than an hourly rate with an unknown number of hours.
